Flood affected Aboriginal pensioner waiting for social housing, lost her partner and then her beloved cat
An Aboriginal lady on disability support pension has been facing one hardship after another. Her partner passed away, following which her partner's house got flooded. The house belonged to her partner and his family, who decided to sell the flood affected home. She had to find alternative accommodation because of that.
She is now approved for social housing but there are no units available, so she is currently crammed in a small unit provided by her friend. That unit has a broken window, and because of cold she has repeatedly had asthma attacks that took her to hospital. Recently her cat passed away who was her companion for 19-years and she would like to have another cat, but she cannot afford one on her disability pension and because she has already taken out a loan, she cannot even take that avenue.
She requested grocery vouchers to be able to divert her disability pension towards the cost of a cat and to prepare meals for the friend that has provided her accommodation.
