This group of First Nations People grapple with maintaining a balance between heritage and the demands of the modern world. Elders are tasked with preserving lore and culture, do so out of deep respect for their ancestors and for future generations who risk losing their identity and connection to their lands and culture if these traditions vanish. The responsibility of maintaining culture is immense, often involving personal sacrifices especially with the hardship and challenges living in two worlds.
Elders and cultural leaders commit their time, energy, and what limited resources they may have—often under challenging conditions—to ensure cultural practices and heritage continue.
