Mother with 1 child escaped serious DV, needs bedroom furniture to provide comfort to child & kitchen essentials
The woman has lived through domestic violence and left suddenly with her child. They were homeless for almost a year and have recently received transitional housing while waiting for permanent housing. The woman has been diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, severe depression, paranoidal fears for repeat stalking and attack from her former husband. The war in Ukraine has also triggered many mental health issues as she has relatives in peril. Her child is 5 years old and also suffering PTSD and separation anxiety. The child sleeps with their mother every night as this is the only way the child can feel safe and restful. The woman is really motivated to re-enter community life when her mental health has improved. She is receiving the Family Tax Benefit but this is not sufficient to supply the comfort and security the mother and child needs to heal. She cannot yet manage fulltime work as she wakes in fear several times a night from PTSD symptoms.
