You could help change someone’s life in Eurobodalla (cancer is expensive) - easing the financial burden of cancer treatment
A cancer diagnosis in rural or regional NSW brings the additional burden of having to travel long distances to treatment. For the residents of Eurobodalla it generally means about a 4 hour return trip to either Nowra or Canberra for both surgery and radiotherapy “it can cost a Eurobodalla family up to 5 or 6 times more than city residents just to access treatment …..and that’s before you consider the emotional toll it takes when patients have to be away from their families and home support system”, said the Branch Secretary. Since 2010, the Branch has been providing the financial assistance needed to alleviate this stress. “You can hear their breath go out , the sigh of relief with so much appreciation and gratitude” said the Patient Liaison Officer. Spending almost half of their annual assistance dollars on travel and accommodation expense for cancer patients (the remainder being made up of medical out of pockets and utility bills) this branch makes a huge difference to the residents
