The 2024-2025 Natural Disaster Season is Here

Media release | 15th November 2024

GIVIT IS CALLING ON LOCAL CHARITIES AND FRONTLINE SERVICES TO ENSURE THEY'RE REGISTERED FOR DONATIONS

As unpredictable weather continues to increase the risk of natural disaster across the country over the next few months, GIVIT is encouraging local community support organisations around Australia to ensure they are ready to support residents if a disaster occurs.

Not-for-profit organisation GIVIT is a government partner for donation management in disasters in most states and territories around Australia, working with more than 4,700 charity partners nationally.

GIVIT Acting National Manager Christina Spehr is encouraging charities and community organisations to register with GIVIT to ensure they’re prepared and familiar with the donation platform before a disaster.

“GIVIT is a free and easy to use resource for community support organisations to access donations of essential goods and services for people impacted by a natural disaster and other hardships,” said Christina.

“We work directly with councils, schools, outreach teams, recovery organisations, charities and community groups to identify exactly what’s needed to make sure people get what they need, when they need it.”

“Simply visit GIVIT.org.au and register online to request donations of goods, vouchers and services. GIVIT can provide critical and immediate support to impacted communities and we use donated funds to purchase goods from local providers, where possible, to support the economic recovery of impacted regions.”

GIVIT utilises technology to provide a coordinated and transparent solution to donation management. By capturing donation offers online, GIVIT helps to avoid the burden of unrequested donations which can overwhelm frontline services and distract them from their primary roles in response and recovery.

“With severe storms, bushfires and floods predicted this summer, we want Australians to be as prepared as possible to support their communities when needed.”

Go to www.GIVIT.org.au to find out more.

If you are a local charity or frontline service who may require donated goods and services, please register at givit.org.au/charity-registration.
