Swan City Youth Service

For more than 30 years, Swan City Youth Service has been the open door that the young people of Midland and surrounds, aged between 12 and 25 years, have accessed for life skills, recreation, education, art, music plus a variety of specialty services.
Working from a holistic model, we predominantly work with “at risk” marginalised young people with complex needs, facing any number of challenges through drug and alcohol counselling, mental health support, weekly medical clinics, accommodation assistance and more. The Buttery

The Buttery is an independent, not-for-profit, charitable, community based organisation specialising in the treatment of mental health, gambling and alcohol and other issues. Its services include residential treatment and community outreach programs. It is located near Bangalow in northern NSW and was founded in 1973. It is now the largest not-for-profit provider of residential and community-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in the NSW Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast Regions. All programs are evidence-based and subject to on-going quality assurance evaluation. Its programs are accredited under Australian Service Excellence Standards. Last year The Buttery provided treatment to more than 2,400 teenagers and adults and assisted the family members of people affected by drug and alcohol, gambling and mental health issues. The Buttery is funded by a combination of government contracts and grants as well as charitable fundraising. It is a deductible gift recipient.

The Carers Foundation Australia

The Carers Foundation Australia (TCFA) Provides wellness programs to support the emotional, physical and mental health of unpaid family cares in communities across Qld to prevent health crisis breakdowns.

Carers are identified and referred to TCFA, then attend wellness programs to restore their own health, connect with others and learn strategies to cope ongoing. Carers are accepted from the ages of 12 years old, and are usually from disadvantaged backgrounds and circumstances.

There is no cost for the carers to attend the programs which consist of comprehensive one and three day programs to allow the carers restore their own health since the y do not have time to themselves due to their caring responsibilities.

The young people who attend our schools have typically experienced one or more significant and complex educational, social, developmental, psychological, health, legal or familial situations which demand unique responses. Such interventions are embedded within an educational framework but also typically involve medical, multidisciplinary, legal and/or social support personnel network systems.

The Champion Project

We are a registered NFP helping people facing lifestyle barriers and the vulnerable in our community to connect and find purpose. Counselling, budgeting, food assistance, mentoring, computer skills training, working with children and families whose parents are incarcerated and those experiencing family and domestic violence and who are facing or at risk of homelessness. We run a Friday night meals program to families and individuals referred to us by the Police, Community Services / child protection and local assistance associations. This allows us to visit those who are in a season of hardship and do not know where to get help. Our meals program provide opportunity to build relationship and identify needs in order to connect people with the assistance and support that they need. We are proactively linking the people we engage with to local businesses with the prospect of part-time or fulltime employment.

The Children's Hospital Westmead - Social Work Department

The Social Workers at The Children's Hospital at Westmead work with children and their families to help them cope with, and adjust to, the diagnosis and the impact of their health condition.

We provide:
- Crisis Intervention Counselling for children, siblings and families in periods of acute trauma and high stress situations.
-Counselling for children, siblings, parents/carers and families to help with adjustment to illness, making decisions or coping with grief and trauma.
- Assistance in putting together a plan to address a family's psychological and social needs.
- Provide information and assistance in accessing practical resources particularly for socially/financially disadvantaged families
- Family violence assessment and support with safety planning.

The Community Centre (Livingstone Shire Council)

The Community Centre is a place for the community to access supportive information and to meet, learn and share each others skills and knowledge.

The Community Centre is partly funded through the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disabiltiy Services. The centre provides Capricorn Coast residents with a public community hubspace that is safe, welcoming, vibrant, accessible, available to all and offers:
General Information and referral assistance;
Outreach services;
Enhanced choices;
Networking and social and social events;
Participation in programs and activities that build skills;
Affordable meeting spaces on a permanent or casual basis , and
Life long learning opportunities.
We also provide important linkages, capacity building educational and partnership opportunities for:

The Community Place Inc. operates two community centres in the Brisbane North area - Stafford and Kalinga. Our Community Centre is a non-profit community organisation that provides activities, places, opportunities and services for people to connect, share and learn together. The Compassionate Friends QLD Inc

The Compassionate Friends is an international self-help support organisation for bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents grieving the loss of a child. We offer friendship and understanding by reaching out to bereaved parents, to the surviving siblings and other family members to support them in the grief and trauma which follows the death of a child, through a range of support services and resources.

Bereaved parents and family members often find the need to talk to someone who has had an experience similar to their own and who truly understand. This allows many to draw comfort from the stories of other parents who have been there and learn from their accounts. All bereaved family members are welcome. The Compassionate Friends is non-denominational, it has no religious affiliation.

The Coonamble Women's Shed

The Women's shed is run by a small committee of volunteers. This was made to help support our community because of the great impact of the drought.

The women's Shed create a safe environment they promote healthy social connections. The women's shed is a place were you can go and enjoy a coffee do art and crafts, learn new skills or just relax and unwind. The women's shed has maintained an average 15-20 visitors and community members that use the facility on a daily basis

The Cottage

We provide education and psycho-social support for adolescents with chronic mental health conditions, with a goal of re-connecting them to mainstream education

The Courage Project

The Courage Project is a collaboration between Bravehearts and Mackay Women’s Service (MWS) to deliver a mental health service to disadvantaged and disengaged children and young people (under the age of 14) that have experienced trauma related issues. The Courage Project will provide therapeutic and advocacy supports to children and young people who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, physical and/or sexual assault and are at risk of self-harm. The service is available to clients residing in the Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac Council Regions. The service will use evidence based, trauma informed approaches to support children and young people in their healing journey. The multidisciplinary team will work with children and young people individually as well as and their non-offending family members and support services.

The Courage Project is supported by funding from Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) through the Australian Government’s PHN Program.

Emergency Food Relief and Hampers, Weekly community meals for the hungry and those needing friendship, Hot soup and rolls delivered in a soup van around the city, free op shop for people in need, items for those sleeping rough.

The Crossing Land Education Trust

The Crossing is a Not-for-Profit, Environment Education Camp on the edge of farmland, river and forest near Bermagui NSW. It is a one class, permaculture designed sustainable camp built by thousands of volunteers over 21 years.

Camp facilities at The Crossing are unique and include a train carriage bunkhouse and solar passive straw and mud buildings, extensive productive gardens and off grid power and water systems.

Student’s experience sustainable design, habitat survey and Landcare while on programs. Students also harvest and cook from the organic gardens and participate in adventurous canoe, bike or bush walking journeys in the surrounding National Parks.
