How to get help through GIVIT

To access donated items or services through GIVIT, please connect with a support organisation registered with GIVIT that can assess your needs and provide assistance. This organisation can then place a request on GIVIT on your behalf. Click here for more information on how to get support through GIVIT.

Institute for Urban Indigenous Health - Birthing in our Communities

Our team provides case management support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing mental health, drug and alcohol or chronic health issues within 5km of the CBD.

Institute for Urban Indigenous Health - Connect Plus

IUIH Connect Plus connects clients and their families to a wide range of services and support, which are available over the phone or in person including:

GP services via AMS or mainstream clinics
Birthing, early childhood and family support
IUIH Home Support and other Aged Care community providers including for Regional Assessment Service (RAS) registration and assessment
Allied Health Services i.e. Occupational Therapy, Dietitian, Physiotherapy etc.
Social support including counselling, meal services and assistance in linking with housing support

Institute for Urban Indigenous Health - Staying Deadly Hub Ipswich

Family health and wellbeing through integrated health and social support services.
Our deadly team works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 15 years and over every day to support mental health and emotional wellbeing. The Staying Deadly Hub provides a community controlled mental health and wellbeing service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, located within the Ipswich region.

The Family Wellbeing Service is a new initiative for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in Strathpine, Caboolture, Morayfield, Deception Bay and the wider Moreton Bay region. The Family Wellbeing Service walks alongside families to support and strengthen connection with kinship, community, health and culture.

Intercept Youth and Family Service

Intercept is a not-for-profit community organisation that provides early intervention and prevention services for young people and their families in the Moreton Bay region.

Whether you are having trouble at school, coping with homelessness, living independently, want to access education options or deal with mental health or disability we are there for you.

Ipswich Flexible Learning Centre

Ipswich Flexible Learning Centre (IFLC) is an educational space that aims to respond to and support young people who experience complexities in their life as they choose to reengage in education. Initially IFLC was established as part of Edmund Rice Education, 'It's up to you' Outreach Program. This program offered opportunities to build trusting relationships and educational pathways for young people of Ipswich wanting to re-engage in flexible learning choices.

The start of 2012 saw IFLC moving to its current location at Milford place as an accredited school within Edmund Rice Education Australia, Youth+.

Since its inception IFLC has provided young people with a safe and supportive environment to re-engage in socially inclusive education. A commitment by young people and adults to the operation by principles of RESPECT, HONESTY, PARTICIPATION and SAFE and LEGAL, has created a holistic learning environment offering relevant and meaningful learning choices to young people.

Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation

Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC, Land Trust and Cultural Heritage Body holds native title, land, and cultural heritage rights and interests in trust on behalf of Eastern Kuku Yalanji Traditional Bama (people). EKY Bama are the Traditional Owners of the bubu (land) and jalun (sea) stretching along the east coast of Tropical North Queensland from the Mowbray Valley surrounding Port Douglas and the Annan River south of Cooktown.

Jabiru Community Youth and Children's Service

Jabiru Community, Youth and Children’s Services Association Inc is a community-based not-for-profit organisation started by a group of mums who wanted something for their kids to do in Bracken Ridge area during the school holidays in 1986.

In 2012 we opened a fee-free college supporting 60 young people who need a flexible approach so they can complete their secondary school education. This work is vital for the wellbeing and prospects of some young people who need extra support to succeed.

Our work with disadvantaged families and young people shows us that communities are incredibly important. In all our work, including our outside school hours care services, we emphasise community and belonging.

Jacaranda Community Centre Inc.

Jacaranda is a not for profit Community organisations with a range of free programs to assist the local community. Classified as an ACCO with 70% Aboriginal Committee and over 51% Aboriginal staff . We run a Domestic Violence Financial Counselling Service and An Aboriginal specific Financial Counselling Outreach Service as well as 3 other financial counselling services. Our outreach extends to the refuges, office s at Armadale , Fremantle, Rockingham. WHFS, Emergency relief either through the ER worker as a one off or through case management if it is to be managed. We have Aboriginal family support and school inclusion program to support Aboriginal children to go to school and support their families. We also have fresh fruit , vegetables and bread on a tuesday. A back to school program with school back packs is available, Christmas hampers and toys. Computer classes, cooking classes, pottery classes, NAIDOC , blankets, Seniors week, disability week depend on the availability of funds.

We provide housing to people in housing stress and to those in the greatest of need in our community.

As one of Brisbane's most trusted housing providers, Jacaranda Housing works closely with tenants, members, local communities, human services support providers, charities and government to continue to provide safe, secure and affordable housing options for all Queenslander's.

Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council

Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) aims to improve, protect and foster the best interests of all Aboriginal persons within the Council’s area and members of the Council.

We have a number of important programs and core areas of work including Social Housing, Agri-Business, Aged Care (Independent Living), Culture & Heritage and Indigenous Protected Areas (land acquisition, use and management).

Recently our community was affected by the floods which severely impacted Cabbage Tree Island, with residents displaced from their homes. We are working towards rebuilding the island so we can bring our community home.

Jalygurr Guwan Aboriginal Corporation has been providing Long Day Care, Out of School Hours Care and Regional Children's Service Mobile Playgroup for over 30 years in Broome. We are committed to delivering high quality early childhood education that enhances the cultural, physical, social, emotional, language and learning development of the children utilizing our services.

Jannawi Family Centre

Jannawi is a specialist child protection service that works with families who have experienced or at risk of experiencing child abuse or neglect. We primarily work with women and children, although we have had some male clients. Our work centers around the most vulnerable experiencing domestic violence, child abuse and neglect. We support families in raising children free from abuse and trauma.
Our services offer therapy and caser management and support such as court support, housing, Centrelink, and parenting.

If you have experienced or are at risk of family and domestic violence and/or sexual assault, contact the National Sexual Assault, Family & Domestic Violence Counselling Line on 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732). 1800 RESPECT is also contactable via text, online chat or video call and is available 24 hours.

 

Financial hardship

The National Debt Helpine provides free, independent and confidential financial counselling via phone or live chat, Monday to Friday. You can call them on 1800 007 007.

Mob Strong Debt Helpline is a free advice service about money matters for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. They can be contacted on 1800 808 488, Monday to Friday.

If you or someone else’s life is in danger, call Triple Zero 000.

You can access 24/7 crisis support by calling Lifeline on 13 11 14. You can also contact Lifeline via text or online chat.

You can talk to a counsellor 24/7 through Beyond Blue. You can also access brief counselling with Beyond Blue via online chat.

If you’re a young person aged 12-25, you can talk to a trained clinician, you can contact Headspace 7 days a week between 9am and 1pm by calling 1800 650 890 or via online chat.

 

First Nations Australians

Children or young people experiencing hardship

Children and young people aged 5 – 25 can access support through Kids Helpline by calling 1800 55 1800 or through online chat 24/7.

 

People living with disability

The Disability Gateway is an Australian Government service to help people with disability, their family, friends and carers find the support they need. They can be contacted on 1800 643 787, Monday to Friday.

 

Refugees and asylum seekers

If you’re a refugee or asylum seeker and you need help, you can contact the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre on 03 9326 6066 Monday to Friday for support.

 

People struggling with addiction
