GIVIT helps thousands of Australians in need every year by providing items, services and vouchers. GIVIT helps people impacted by natural disasters, domestic and family violence or homelessness, First Nations Australians, people living with disability or mental ill-health, and much more.

 

How to get help through GIVIT

To access donated items or services through GIVIT, please connect with a support organisation registered with GIVIT that can assess your needs and provide assistance. This organisation can then place a request on GIVIT on your behalf. Click here for more information on how to get support through GIVIT.

Merana Aboriginal Community Association for the Hawkesbury

Merana supports Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples of the Hawkesbury LGA, Riverstone, Londonderry and Cranebrook areas. Merana provides a range of services including Supported Playgroup, After School Program, Family Fun Days, Outreach, Aboriginal Men's and Women's Groups, Dance Group, Drug and Alcohol Mentoring Program, Support Senior's to keep them connected in community, organises Hawkesbury NAIDOC Concert and Ball annually, Confirmation of Aboriginality to eligible people, information, advice and referral.

Mercy Community - Family and Child Connect - Caboolture

Our role is to engage families at risk into support services. We assess what the parents and children's needs and help them to engage in support services to address the worries or needs they might have. For example DV, Parenting Support, Counselling

Mercy Community - Foster and Kinship Care - Caboolture

Mercy Community provides foster care and kinship care services for children and young people who are unable to live at home because of child protection concerns.

Our role is to recruit, train, assess, support and monitor foster and kinship carers who provide a home for children and young people. We offer our carers dedicated foster care workers, information and training, after-hours on-call support, carer support groups and invites to special carer events.

Mercy Community - IFS, ASC and PELD - Ipswich

Our Connected Families Program supports families with children and/or young people up to 18 years of age who might be experiencing a range of challenges.

Our Assessment and Service Connect is a short-term support service for families involved in a Child Safety investigation and assessment process.

Our Pathways for Early Learning & Development (PELD) program, run in partnership with Playgroup Queensland, aims to support children to learn and develop in all aspects in the critical first five years of life. The program recognises that children learn in both formal and broader family and community settings. Children and their parents/caregivers are engaged in structured playgroups as well as in-home support.

Mercy Community - New Families Program

New families program is in partnership with department of child safety and supports new mums to have their newborns remain in their care whilst under going a parenting assessment. New families program is an intensive support house and can house 3 mums and 3 babies at one time. The house is supported 24/7 by workers.

Mercy Community Services - Family Matters - Ipswich

The Mercy Community Ipswich Family Matters Team provides counselling to children who are at risk of developing a mental illness and their families.

Mercy Community Services SEQ - Hillcrest

Family Unit provides empowering programs and personalised support to families, with children and young people (0 to 18 years), who are not currently working with the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women (DCSYW), and currently reside within the Logan West catchment area.

The Family Unit focuses on supporting families to reach their goals, with an emphasis on building strong, connected relationships, through education on parenting skills, healthy relationships, self-control, behaviour management strategies and empowerment.

Participation by families in the Family Unit program is voluntary.

The Mercy Community team at Lowood is a part of the families and young people programs delivered by Mercy Community in the Somerset Region. The Lowood team deliver several services and initiatives to support families living in Lowood and surrounding areas including an Integrated Early Years’ Service, Targeted Family Support Service and a Service Australia Agent. The Lowood Hub at 24 Railway Street is also home to the local Lowood Community Pantry which is a free to access pantry providing essential items for children, families and community members in the Somerset region.

Mind - Sandridge

Residential program that accommodates young people who are homeless and have suffered trauma. We support the young people in all areas of their lives to assist them with there goals to move forward and live the lives they desire.

Mind Australia - Toowoomba Community Care Unit

Mind Australia work collaboratively with Queensland Health at the Darling Downs Community Care Unit (Toowoomba). DDCCU is a residential facility consisting of 24 individual single-bed units which provide short to medium term safe, supportive and recovery focused care for people with serious mental illness and associated psychosocial disability.

The goal for residents residing at CCU is to transition into independent living, however, due to limited funds, this can be barrier for some residents who are not able to afford furniture and/or items for their homes.

At CCU, group programs are offered such as art, sport, movie nights, budgeting, cooking, gardening, etc. Any donated items for groups would be much appreciated, such as craft items, board/card games, books, DVDS for residents, items to support wellness, footballs/sporting equipment, etc.

Mindle Bygul Aboriginal Corporation

Mindle Bygul Aboriginal Corporation is a Not for Profit Community Based Organisation that supports the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community of Deception Bay and Surrounds.

Mission Australia - Darwin Sobering Up Shelter

Provides overnight accommodation to those under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and who have been delivered to the shelter by NT Police or Night Patrol. Shelter staff provide client referrals to other services which may be able to assist the client focus group to improve their lifestyles. Engagement with clients is done in a sensitive and culturally respectful method to ensure clients feel safe at all times.

Mission Australia - Navig8

Navig8 is the leaving care service provider for all young people aged between 14-25 who are currently in or have left Child Protection and Family Support (CPFS) Care. We cover the South West and Great Southern.
We provide advice and practical support for young people who are working towards transitioning to independent living.
Navig8 is available for ongoing support until the young person reaches 25.

Domestic and family violence

If your life is in danger, call Triple Zero 000 for emergency assistance.

If you have experienced or are at risk of family and domestic violence and/or sexual assault, contact the National Sexual Assault, Family & Domestic Violence Counselling Line on 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732). 1800 RESPECT is also contactable via text, online chat or video call and is available 24 hours.

 

Financial hardship

The National Debt Helpine provides free, independent and confidential financial counselling via phone or live chat, Monday to Friday. You can call them on 1800 007 007.

Mob Strong Debt Helpline is a free advice service about money matters for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. They can be contacted on 1800 808 488, Monday to Friday.

Mental health, depression or anxiety

If you or someone else’s life is in danger, call Triple Zero 000.

You can access 24/7 crisis support by calling Lifeline on 13 11 14. You can also contact Lifeline via text or online chat.

You can talk to a counsellor 24/7 through Beyond Blue. You can also access brief counselling with Beyond Blue via online chat.

If you’re a young person aged 12-25, you can talk to a trained clinician, you can contact Headspace 7 days a week between 9am and 1pm by calling 1800 650 890 or via online chat.

 

First Nations Australians

If you’re a First Nations Australian and you are going through a tough time, you can call 13YARN (13 92 76) to talk with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander crisis supporter.

 

Children or young people experiencing hardship

Children and young people aged 5 – 25 can access support through Kids Helpline by calling 1800 55 1800 or through online chat 24/7.

 

People living with disability

The Disability Gateway is an Australian Government service to help people with disability, their family, friends and carers find the support they need. They can be contacted on 1800 643 787, Monday to Friday.

 

Refugees and asylum seekers

If you’re a refugee or asylum seeker and you need help, you can contact the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre on 03 9326 6066 Monday to Friday for support.

 

People struggling with addiction

The National Alcohol and Other Drug Hotline is a 24/7 service that provides free and confidential advice about alcohol and other drugs. You can call them on 1800 250 015.

Alternatively, Alcohol & Drug Counselling Online offers 24/7 online chat counselling.
