The Clemente Program is an undergraduate education program offered by the St Vincent de Paul Society in partnership with the Australian Catholic University. It aims to break the cycle of poverty, inequality and social injustice for disadvantaged and marginalised people by providing opportunities to engage in a meaningful way with society, both socially and economically, through access to university-level study. Students study towards a non-award accredited university qualification, the Certificate in Liberal Studies. The achievement of studying at a university level for someone who has been living on the edge of society can be truly transformative.

What is Samaritan House?
Samaritan House has provided support and accommodation to single men in the Canberra region since 1995, it is the only provider of crisis accommodation for single men in the ACT and experiences a huge demand for its twelve bedrooms.

Samaritan House is a large property located on the north side of Canberra and is open twenty four hours a day.
What are the benefits from accessing this service?
It is a central hub for homeless men in the ACT and priority is given to support of men with complex and multiple needs. We have effective relationships with external agencies and a volunteer group assisting our guests with information, group work, skills training and a sympathetic ear.

Street to Home supports people who are ‘sleeping rough’ in Canberra. The service has a strong focus on both physical and mental health. Street to Home has six flats for crisis or housing first options for rough sleepers. Street to Home works under the Service Guarantee from specialist homelessness services, and upholds the ACT Mental Health Charter of Rights.

Matthew Talbot Hostel is a not-for-profit program providing homelessness support services to the community across the Greater Sydney area. We aim to provide immediate support /accommodation for people in crisis as well as facilitate access to other essential services and more permanent housing. This is done whilst providing a safe environment for people who are sleeping rough and have experienced trauma. Material Aid is an increasingly important part of the support we provide. We offer Family Assistance to families and single people experiencing a range of challenges. We supply food, furniture, clothes, assistance with utilities and support with accessing medical appointments and buying medication. We often need goods for women and children moving into accommodation after leaving domestic violence situations. at times we cannot source a fridge or washing machine or cots and baby goods. We work very closely with the other agencies in Gympie eg Gympie Community Housing to assist both men and women. A number of men are returning from custodial situations and need emergency accommodation and need all the simple household items. We often have trouble finding pots and pans to give them or sufficient linen to keep up with the demand. Currently our big demand is for white goods, furniture and other essentials for families affected by the 2022 floods.

St Joseph’s aims to remove all barriers that young people may face to engaging in education. The school does not have any fees, or any costs for books, excursion or VET programs, and young people are provided a MYKI so that they can easily access school via public transport.

Amelie House is a crisis accommodation and case management service for unaccompanied women or women with children who have experienced domestic/family violence and/or homelessness. We provide safe individual unit accommodation.
The service operates within a client centred service delivery framework based on the principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment and incorporates both trauma informed and culturally competent practices.

Stairway Church runs a free community food pantry called @ThePantry. We support our communities struggling with food insecurity. Visitors to the pantry can access fresh fruit & vegetables, bread, dairy, meat, frozen meals, long life food, pet food, personal hygiene products, household cleaning products, and some other household items. Starick is a not-for-profit domestic and family violence service that assists women and children. Starick has been working in the south east metropolitan corridor of Perth since 1985, providing a diverse range of services for women and children escaping domestic and family violence.
Starick provides crisis and medium-term housing, court and legal support, counselling, support groups, programs for children and a community op shop.
Our services include two refuges, outreach services for women and children living in the community and transitional housing for women who have recently left the refuge. We also offer our Safe at Home programs to assist women to stay in their homes after domestic violence.
We rely on community funding to provide non-core programs to the women and children in our service such as children’s counselling, baby massage, yoga for trauma and therapeutic writing programs.

Step by Step provides post-disaster psychosocial support to bushfire and flood affected residents living in the Lithgow, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury regions. We provide personalised case-management support to people affected by the recent disaster events. We are a free, mobile outreach service providing tailored assistance with insurance, rebuilding, links to recovery resources and services as well as immediate emotional and social support. Stepping Stone is a community intentionally organised to support individuals living with the effects of mental illness. In Australia, Stillbirth is the leading cause of infant death. Many of these deaths are preventable. Still Aware’s mission is to end preventable stillbirth through awareness and education.
Still Aware is the first and only not-for-profit charity, based in Adelaide, but are national. Dedicated to raising awareness of Stillbirth, saving lives through the education of health care providers, expectant mothers, and their families. I myself was shocked and dismayed to learn that stillbirth is the leading cause of infant death in Australia:
- more than 2000 babies are ‘born still’ every year in Australia
- six babies a day, one baby, one family grieving every five hours
- for every baby that dies of SIDS, 35 are stillborn
These figures are as astounding as they are devastating, but more tragic is the knowledge that up to sixty percent of these vulnerable babies’ lives could be saved.

Substation33 is a YFS social enterprise based in the Logan suburb of Kingston. Substation33 opened its doors in January 2013 as an electronic waste recycling centre, providing a workplace where volunteers and employees gain confidence and skills for the transition to sustainable employment. Its purpose is to provide training and employment opportunities through the recycling of electronic waste.
More recently, Substation33 has started an Innovation Lab and has designed and developed a number of products for commercial, social and educational purposes. These included Flooded Road Smart Warning Signs, Electric ‘e-bikes’, 3D printers, a vertical garden monitoring system, to name just a few. These projects provide an opportunity for up-cycling and e-waste diversion from land-fill, which has environmental benefits, and skills development and transfer between professional mentors and volunteers, students and people seeking to return to the workforce, which provides social and economic benefits to the community.

Thousands of organisations across Australia are registered with GIVIT, working across a variety of causes, hardships and demographics. Our priority is to respect and maintain the privacy, safety, dignity and independence of people reaching out for help. By connecting with a relevant support organisastion, your needs can be assessed and verified, and you can receive tailored support, which may include the organisation requesting items or services on your behalf through GIVIT.
The support organisation that is assisting you can request a range of donated items and services through GIVIT on your behalf. This may include furniture, household items, whitegoods and appliances. You can also request baby items, toiletries, toys and educational supplies, kid’s or adult’s clothing, digital devices like mobile phones or laptops.
GIVIT may also be able to help you buy groceries, fuel or medication in the form of vouchers. You can check our ‘What’s needed’ list for an idea of what can be requested through GIVIT.
Your requests may be filled through a donor donating the money needed to purchase the item new, or through a donor donating the actual item or service.
Your support organisation can also request time and skills such as tradespeople, cleaners, health and social support, tutoring and transport assistance.
