Homeless young lady who has escaped DV at 17 and is also supporting her younger sister with a disability
These two young girls represent the youth we hear about all the time that have falling thought the gaps.
They are too young to be getting housing support and the full financial assistance from Centrelink. The older sister 17 is old enough to take on the responsibility of caring for her little sister 14. They are both at risk of future homelessness and this is due to the DV relationship the older sister escape from after being in that relationship since she was 13. They do not have any family that can assist them, and are in need of clothes, food, kitchen items and taxi vouchers to get to hospital appointments for the young sister weekly. As the $416.30 that they get only covers the hostel rent $260 as weeks and the $156.30 doesn't leave much to live on.
