Support for a fella who was hospitalised and had surgery who is being discharged to rough sleep again in the next few days
This fella was recently released from prison on parole. He was working peer support while incarcerated and his goal is to work with Aboriginal people to support them to break their own cycle of mental health, homelessness, substance use, and offending behaviour. He was staying in transitional accommodation but his tenancy ended and he returned to rough sleeping. Although he was referred to every homelessness and accommodation service in Perth there is an extreme shortage and he wasn't assessed as high risk enough for immediate allocation. Over the last few weeks his health has deteriorated and he presented to emergency vomiting blood and had surgery for burst stomach ulcers. But he will be discharged in a few weeks and will have to return to the streets. We are trying again to get him in with a service but in the event that we can't we want to book him into a motel for at least a week while he recovers from surgery. Any and all support would be greatly appreciated.
