Flood survivor rebuilding life, seeking essential items to create a stable home for herself & granddaughter after great loss
I’m reaching out on behalf of a client who is rebuilding her life after losing everything she owned in the 2022 Northern Rivers flood. At the time, she was living in Lismore, caring for her young granddaughter while her granddaughter's mother was in hospital awaiting a heart transplant. When the floodwaters rose, they were evacuated by boat, but all of her belongings were lost.
She and her granddaughter then took temporary refuge with her son in Ballina, but soon after, another flood damaged this home as well, once again taking away what they’d managed to rebuild.
Since then, she has been in temporary accommodation provided by the Reconstruction Authority. With this program ending soon, she is relocating to a new area due to the shortage of homes and jobs in Lismore. She is determined to establish a stable home where her young granddaughter, who sadly lost her mother following the heart surgery, can stay with her regularly.
