Resident on DSP evacuated in the Victorian fire event, Severe financial hardship
Resident lives with his wife and 2 daughters. His 15-year-old daughter is diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, making the evacuation experience and fear associated with fire approaching their home extremely traumatising. Resident had only just moved to his PPR two weeks before the fire event. He advised ‘After paying bond, rent in advance and moving costs I had just $50 to last the 8 days we were evacuated.’ Recent local fire events have also caused the family considerable concern. Resident has been unable to stabilise his financial situation. The family is struggling to afford utility bills, daily living costs and medical treatment. The resident has a chronic condition – spinal arthritis and receives a disability pension. Resident requires prostate surgery; the cost of registering on the wait list for this procedure and associated travel costs has caused this critical treatment to be deferred. Grocery vouchers would significantly alleviate financial distress.
