Fridge/freezer - large
87 year old man caring for blind wife. Living alone with chronic health conditions and disability.
Resident is an 87-year-old man in recovery from heart surgery. He provides full time 24/7 care for his wife who is blind since cancer treatment 10 years ago. Medications required to manage both their chronic health conditions are expensive, and some are not subsidised. Their fridge freezer, which is a mainstay for them in fortnights during which their aged pension is depleted, has begun malfunctioning and they cannot afford a replacement. This could become critical to their health as some scripts and supplementary medications require cool storage. The couple are socially isolated and disconnected from their faith and culture due to no longer being able to drive. The couple have been married for 67 years and the resident states ‘I am proud to be caring for her, she is everything to me. We don’t need much or go places but if we didn’t have to worry about food and our medications as much, we would be very happy.’
