Flood impacted aged pensioner living in caravan with no power
This lovely man is in his mid 70's and living in a caravan in the tropics which has no access to power. He has applied for Social Housing but the wait lists are long and it could be years before he gets secure housing. He has owned the caravan a long time and the original solar panel and battery have ceased working following the flooding event. He does not drive so has to catch a taxi (our region has limited transport options) to essential services. Without power, he has to taxi to the local supermarket (approx $20-$25 each way) twice a week to get fresh food and bags of ice to keep the food cool for a few days. He also goes to a friend's house to use their shower as while the caravan has a shower, it only works when connected to power. He has to buy disposable batteries for torches to provide him with light at night.
