Recovery after Ex-TC Ellie - Kimberley Floods
The Kimberley Region of Western Australia sustained serious flooding associated with Ex-TC Ellie in January 2023. The Fitzroy River peaked at 15.8m, an extra 1.8m on the previous record. Many people across the Kimberley were impacted with many homes, businesses, pastoral leases and national parks impacted by the flooding.
Many residents are still living with extended family and in temporary accommodation in overcrowded conditions. People will be starting to move home to their rebuilt homes from August 2024, with Recovery continuing into 2025.
Economic hardships are a part of life in the Kimberley, and due to the overcrowding and extended families living together, it has become even harder for some.
The Fitzroy Crossing Flood Hub is a multi-agency hub set up to assist residents across the Kimberley on their Recovery journey based on each residents individual needs. Some examples of assistance is: applications for grants, welfare support, temporary accommodation.
