Despite dangerous road and concrete temperatures in Fitzroy Crossing, youth are barefoot, endangering their health and safety
During the long hot build up to the wet season in Fitzroy Crossing and across the Kimberley the country swelters through months of 40 plus degree temperatures. The road and concrete gets so hot you can not only cook an egg but the sausages and bacon too. Tar forms on roads as they boil in the sun. Despite the melting road surfaces, many youths in Fitzroy Crossing wander barefoot throughout the town, shoeless because many factors such as economic hardship and unstable home life due to family and domestic violence, substance abuse and trauma. A pair of crocs will not only limit physical damage to the youths feet but add greatly to the wearers feelings of pride, self-worth, confidence and comfort. These feeling will help youth be more attentive and boost their attendance at school and evaluate and help these youths achieve their true potential.
