Storm affected resident with property damage experiencing financial hardship and disability related challenges.
Resident was affected by the February 2024 storm event, having had his fencing destroyed and had flood damage to his garage door and contents within his garage. Resident did not have insurance on the property and so has struggled to purchase back the belongings he lost in his garage and has not been able to repair his automatic garage door. Resident is quite isolated and does not have many supports around him. Resident runs his own small business however injured his back after a fall and resulting in back & neck injuries and has not been able to work since. He did not have insurance cover is now on Job Seeker. Resident used a portion of his superannuation to cover the $24k operation needed after his fall and now has a $19K credit card debt. due to fraudulent use which is now with the courts. He has multiple medical appts which incur extra fuel costs and avoids healthy eating due to the expense. Resident is at risk of falling into long-term financial hardship.
