Refugee Mother and Son - Financial Support for School Transport
I am requesting support for a single mother and child, who have recently arrived in Australia from Venezuela on a humanitarian refugee visa. The son is seven years old and has diagnoses of level 3 autism, and severe ADHD. The son has just started his first ever schooling experience, and is doing great. However, transport is a problem. He is on the waitlist for SchoolBuses WA, but until then, Mum is required to travel on public transport with him for about 90 minutes each way. This is causing ongoing distressed to the son and mum, as she then attends TAFE visa public transport immediately after. Due to ongoing financial stress and barriers to employment, mum cannot afford to obtain her licence or a vehicle to assist with this. The travel also means that the son is getting tired at school easily and not getting the most out of his education.
I am kindly requesting transport vouchers for occasional respite on the difficult days for this mother and son.
