71 year old lady whose house has been severely damaged in 2023 Christmas Weather event in urgent need of supports
Recipient is a 71 years old lady, living at Tamborine, whose house has been significantly damaged during the 2023 Christmas storm that impacted Gold Coast and Scenic Rim areas. Windows on the house are broken (she covered them with plastic) and roof is leaking (uses buckets to manage). Her husband of 48 years, has died soon after the storm (January 2024). While she is trying to manage the grief of this loss, she is also dealing with insurance that is not disclosing any information to her until the executor of estate manages the will. Financially she is struggling and she reported yesterday that she will not be able to buy groceries as she has to pay utility bills (electricity and rates). She cannot clean or mow the yard and is picking up branches herself despite her fragile health. She also is supporting her adult daughter (mental health issues) and 7yo granddaughter (school drop offs and pick ups).
She also has pre-existing health issues that require support from health services.
