Washing Machine - 8-9KG

Young man with an intellectual disability is looking for help to set up his first ever housing, moving out of homelessness

We work with young people with a disability, who are at risk of becoming/are homeless. Often these young people have been faced with multiple barriers throughout their life, including experiences in out-of-home care, unemployment or underemployment, housing and financial stress etc.

We are working with a young man with an intellectual disability who has faced barriers in transitioning to adulthood such as homelessness and the loss of his parent. He has just signed a lease with a youth housing provider, and is needing help to set up the unit with household essentials. He is on a disability pension and studying at TAFE so has limited personal funding available to pay for initial set-up costs.

Washing Machine - 8-9KG

This young person has recently moved into their first independent housing and has been establishing themselves with essential household items from second-hand donations, and saving up from each fortnightly pay.
One item they are requiring is a washing machine. They have accessed second-hand machines, however each of these has not been functional once connected.
They do not have the funds to purchase a new one themselves due to the cost of rent and other bills as a first-time renter. They need to wash their TAFE uniform regularly and do not have a licence, therefore making a laundromat more difficult.
It is hoped that a voucher for a new, lower-cost washing machine will help this young person build skills, have a long-lasting resource, and assist them during their transition to independent living.
