A young resilient adult with mental health issues has recently secured an apartment after a 3 year wait on the housing list

A young resilient adult has recently secured a 1-bedroom apartment after a three-year wait on the housing list. Since a relationship breakdown in 2021, they have faced secondary homelessness, living in refuges, transitional housing, and couch surfing, significantly affecting their mental health with severe stress, anxiety, and depression.

Proactively seeking help, they engaged with doctors in November 2022 for anxiety and depression. They have been in therapy, completed a Mental Health Care Plan, and started Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with goals to improve mood, resume studies, exercise, and increase social connections. Referred to the other intensive programs in early 2024, they have shown progress in their treatment.

Balancing a part-time job in hospitality with IT studies at Canberra Institute of Technology, they have also explored alternative housing options. Their time in a non-for-profit refuge for young adults.
