Art Therapy for Aboriginal Children
Art can be a powerful tool for Aboriginal children recovering from domestic violence, as it offers a culturally relevant and expressive way to process their emotions and experiences. Through art, these children can express feelings that might be too difficult to verbalise, such as fear, sadness, or confusion. It allows them to reconnect with their cultural identity, drawing on traditional Aboriginal art practices that have been used for storytelling, healing, and spiritual connection for generations.
Art also creates a safe space for children to explore their trauma in a non-threatening way, helping them regain a sense of control and agency. Engaging in creative activities can reduce stress, promote emotional regulation, and foster resilience by enabling the child to externalise their inner experiences in a form that can be seen, shared, and understood by others.
