Safety after DV: A Young Mother’s Journey Through Trauma and Housing Challenges
At just 20 years old, a young woman and single mother of a one-year-old child finds herself residing in a domestic violence refuge after enduring significant trauma. The child’s father, who perpetrated physical assaults against her, is currently incarcerated. Her history of trauma extends beyond her relationship with him, as she is also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Despite the resilience she has demonstrated in seeking safety and stability for herself and her child, she faces considerable challenges. Her hope is to settle in the South West, closer to her family, as a way to foster healing and build a support network. However, the ongoing housing crisis and the lack of affordable options present a substantial barrier to achieving this goal, leaving her future uncertain as she navigates these complex circumstances.
