Participant is a single mother that was severely flood affected and struggling to make ends meet.
This participant is a single mother with 2 daughters. She was severely affected by the February 2022 Lismore flood event. Not only was she deeply emotionally and mentally traumatised but she is still struggling to recover financially from the affects on her property. Over the past 2 years the participant has managed to use any grant money and flood recovery assistance to do minor repairs to the property. The amount of damage to the house and the trauma experiences led the participant to appeal the rejected buyback offer. After 12 months of continual appeals the participant has just received a successful appeal, however this process will take another 6 months to finalise. Due to the drawn out experience, diagnosed PTSD from flood experience, increase in hearing disability (recently cost of $10,000 outlayed for upgraded hearing aids), participant has also recently become unemployed and struggling to provide for family.
