GIVIT helps thousands of Australians in need every year by providing items, services and vouchers. GIVIT helps people impacted by natural disasters, domestic and family violence or homelessness, First Nations Australians, people living with disability or mental ill-health, and much more.

 

How to get help through GIVIT

To access donated items or services through GIVIT, please connect with a support organisation registered with GIVIT that can assess your needs and provide assistance. This organisation can then place a request on GIVIT on your behalf. Click here for more information on how to get support through GIVIT.

Mercy Community Services SEQ - Hillcrest

Family Unit provides empowering programs and personalised support to families, with children and young people (0 to 18 years), who are not currently working with the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women (DCSYW), and currently reside within the Logan West catchment area.

The Family Unit focuses on supporting families to reach their goals, with an emphasis on building strong, connected relationships, through education on parenting skills, healthy relationships, self-control, behaviour management strategies and empowerment.

Participation by families in the Family Unit program is voluntary.

Mercy Community Services SEQ - Lowood

The Mercy Community team at Lowood is a part of the families and young people programs delivered by Mercy Community in the Somerset Region. The Lowood team deliver several services and initiatives to support families living in Lowood and surrounding areas including an Integrated Early Years’ Service, Targeted Family Support Service and a Service Australia Agent. The Lowood Hub at 24 Railway Street is also home to the local Lowood Community Pantry which is a free to access pantry providing essential items for children, families and community members in the Somerset region.

Mercy Connect supports children from refugee backgrounds at their schools. We also run, at the schools, English classes for their parents.

MercyCare Multicultural Support Services - Mirrabooka

Our Mulitcultural Services are focused on providing settlement support for new arrivals, helping people with no or limited income to pay essential living costs, and in assisting people to develop their skills and find employment so that they can earn a living. These services are largely targeted at asylum seekers, refugees, humanitarian entrants and new arrivals, who face the greatest challenges settling in Australia.

Meridian

The Meridian's ( formely AIDS Action Council) Trevor Daley Fund is a community support fund established in 1992 to honour the memory of one of our earliest members and volunteers, Trevor Daley, who died from AIDS related illness. The Fund provides financial assistance to people living with HIV in times of financial hardship and / or to achieve specific goals and life aspirations.

Merindah is a center for women of all ages that promotes a culture of positive character development, leadership and service. Working with girls, young women, parents and professionals from diverse backgrounds, Merindah offers activities touching on all aspects of personal development: human, profession, cultural and spiritual. We provide services to newly arrived Migrants and Refugees, Families experiencing difficult financial, social and relational issues, Tenants at a risk of homelessness and People on low income looking for assistance with food, clothing and other material assistance. We are serving communities since 1986 and were formerly known as Metro Migrant Resource Centre.

Metro South Hospital & Health Services - Transitional Housing Team

The Transitional Housing Team work with people who have a mental illness and who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We assist people to find accommodation and assist them with the skills to live independently.

Metro South Hospital and Health Service - Logan-Beaudesert Youth and Family Wellbeing Team

The Youth and Family Wellbeing Team works in partnership with families and community networks to support children and young people, aged 12 – 21 years (suffering from a mental illness) who are living in Logan-Beaudesert area.

Post disaster mental health related supports for individuals, groups and communities impacted by SEQ severe weather event in Feb 2022 in Brisbane (south of Brisbane River), Redlands, Logan and Scenic Rims.

Metropolitan Migrant Resource Centre

'The Metropolitan Migrant Resource Centre Inc. is a non-profit community organisation based in Mirrabooka which provides services across the metropolitan area. We receive funding from a range of state and commonwealth government agencies and our management committee is drawn from Centre members and the CaLD communities who we serve. MMRC endeavors to bridge gaps that refugees and new migrants encounter during their settlement in Australia. Domestic and family violence

If your life is in danger, call Triple Zero 000 for emergency assistance.

If you have experienced or are at risk of family and domestic violence and/or sexual assault, contact the National Sexual Assault, Family & Domestic Violence Counselling Line on 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732). 1800 RESPECT is also contactable via text, online chat or video call and is available 24 hours.

 

Financial hardship

The National Debt Helpine provides free, independent and confidential financial counselling via phone or live chat, Monday to Friday. You can call them on 1800 007 007.

Mob Strong Debt Helpline is a free advice service about money matters for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. They can be contacted on 1800 808 488, Monday to Friday.

Mental health, depression or anxiety

If you or someone else’s life is in danger, call Triple Zero 000.

You can access 24/7 crisis support by calling Lifeline on 13 11 14. You can also contact Lifeline via text or online chat.

You can talk to a counsellor 24/7 through Beyond Blue. You can also access brief counselling with Beyond Blue via online chat.

If you’re a young person aged 12-25, you can talk to a trained clinician, you can contact Headspace 7 days a week between 9am and 1pm by calling 1800 650 890 or via online chat.

 

First Nations Australians

If you’re a First Nations Australian and you are going through a tough time, you can call 13YARN (13 92 76) to talk with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander crisis supporter.

 

Children or young people experiencing hardship

Children and young people aged 5 – 25 can access support through Kids Helpline by calling 1800 55 1800 or through online chat 24/7.

 

People living with disability

The Disability Gateway is an Australian Government service to help people with disability, their family, friends and carers find the support they need. They can be contacted on 1800 643 787, Monday to Friday.

 

Refugees and asylum seekers

If you’re a refugee or asylum seeker and you need help, you can contact the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre on 03 9326 6066 Monday to Friday for support.

 

People struggling with addiction

The National Alcohol and Other Drug Hotline is a 24/7 service that provides free and confidential advice about alcohol and other drugs. You can call them on 1800 250 015.

Alternatively, Alcohol & Drug Counselling Online offers 24/7 online chat counselling.
