GIVIT helps thousands of Australians in need every year by providing items, services and vouchers. GIVIT helps people impacted by natural disasters, domestic and family violence or homelessness, First Nations Australians, people living with disability or mental ill-health, and much more.

 

How to get help through GIVIT

To access donated items or services through GIVIT, please connect with a support organisation registered with GIVIT that can assess your needs and provide assistance. This organisation can then place a request on GIVIT on your behalf. Click here for more information on how to get support through GIVIT.

Northern Community CareWorks

Provide services to the community in the following ways:
(i) providing free employment training and work experience programs and support services;
(ii) delivering a range of social, health and wellbeing activities and events;
(iii) hosting community meals and activities to facilitate community engagement, connection and social welfare; and
(iv) providing pastoral care to people experiencing helplessness
We also operate an Op Shop with clothing and furniture for the people of Darebin City. We are located in the buildling owed and operated by Northern Community Church of Christ but operate as a separate registered organisation.

Northern Compassion (Tenacious House)

Tenacious House is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2014. This is a voluntary residential recovery centre with a program designed to empower men to take control of their lives and overcome issues such as addiction anxiety and depression.

The program is design equip men with the tools to succeed in life and support them on a pathway into employment or education.

The Tenacious House program is an evidence-based, community-focused program (meaning we do what works
and we support one another).
The program runs for an initial 5 months, after which the length of stay is determined by need.

Northern Health

We are a branch of Melbourne Health, and operate as a mental health service operating out of various sites providing care to individuals affected by mental illness.

We deliver a comprehensive range of specialist, community and hospital-based mental health services for youth, adult and aged people who are experiencing, or are at risk of developing a serious mental illness.

Services are delivered through six programs spanning 32 sites across the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne.

Northern Health Foundation

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute and specialist services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north. Our emergency department treats over 107,000 patients each year, cares for over 94,000 patients admitted to hospital, and assists with the delivery of over 4,000 babies each year. The Northern Health catchment includes three of the state's six growth areas and a very diverse community, with people who were born in more than 185 countries. Northern Land Council

The Northern Land Council is an independant statutory authority of the Commonwealth. It is responsible for assisting Aboriginal peoples in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their traditional lands and seas.

Northern NSW Health - Disaster Recovery Team

Disaster recovery team supports people across the Northern NSW LGA to prepare, recover and respond to the impact of disasters

Northern Rivers Children's Services

Not for profit organisation - provision of Family Day Care, Early Childhood Services, Outside Of School Hours care, In home Care, and Ready Set Go. Ready Set Go is a Commonwealth Funded Communities for Children project and is a child development and parent support program for children 0 - 6 years for families in Lismore and Goonellabah Priority groups for funding include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, families with long term financial hardship or disadvantage and families with complex family stressors. Ready Set Go supports families to access support services.

Northern Rivers Community Gateway

Northern Rivers Community Gateway (NRCG) is a not-for-profit, incorporated community organisation formed in 1976 and incorporated in 1977.

The Northern Rivers Community Gateway is governed by a Board of Directors. The board is made up of professionals working and residing across NSW.

Northern Rivers Community Gateway receives funding for its projects and programs from a variety of agencies, sponsors, donors and fund raising initiatives.

Northern Rivers Housing

The Northern Rivers Housing is a not-for-profit company managing long-term social and affordable housing for people with special needs and residents with low and moderate incomes in the far North Coast region of New South Wales in Australia.
The Company is the largest Community Housing provider in this region.
Planning is well under way for future expansion of the Company’s property portfolio in all these local government areas. Growth will continue to be sourced from stock transfers from Housing NSW, new acquisitions including redeveloped properties, and properties developed by NCCH Community Housing in partnership with other regional organisations.

NCCH currently manages in excess of 900 properties across the far North Coast of NSW managing 950 tenancies.

NCCH acknowledges the Bundjalung, Arakwal, Gumbaynggirr and Yaegl peoples who are the traditional custodians of the land that comprises the Northern Rivers.

Northside Community Service - Aged Care Housing

Northside’s Assistance with Care and Housing program is funded throguh the Commonwealth Home Support Program and provides a wide range of services to older community members who are homeless or at risk of being homeless as they get older. This might be because they are on a low income or have insecure housing and face challenges finding a place to live that they can call home. The program team supports individuals over 65 years and people aged 50 years or older who are are prematurely aged*, on a low income and are homeless or at risk of being homeless. Northside Community Service - Common Ground

This unique housing initiative provides supportive and sustainable housing to low income earners and those who have experienced homelessness. As tenancy and project managers for the recently completed Common Ground Canberra, Located in the heart of Gungahlin, close to services, transport and shops, the site comprises of 40 x 1-bedroom units. There are also expansive internal and external common areas available for all tenants to use whenever they like – such as the communal open plan kitchen, computer work stations, entertainment room, art room, large communal veggie gardens and BBQ area. Along with Argyle, Northside Community Services are available onsite to provide that extra support to tenants.

Northside Community Service - Housing First

Housing First recognises that stability is more likely to be achieved if an individual or family has and affordable, safe, permanent place to live. This approach harnesses the power of permanent, safe housing to help people recover and heal from the trauma of homelessness. It gives them a safe space in which to address the issues that may be stopping them from living the lives they want.

Northside Community Service - Majura Men's Shed

Majura Men's Shed build and repair wooden toys, made to order toys and furniture for playgroups and preschools and also for Aged Care & Community Care Facilities. Majura Men's Shed works closely with Alzheimer's Australia ACT to offer a number of programs for men with early onset dimentia.

Northside Community Service - Y.Engage

The Y.Engage team at Northside Community Service are committed to supporting young people of Inner North and Gunghalin regions of Canberra, between the ages of 12 - 25 who are vulnerable and disengaged. The Y.Engage team support young people through outreach, short-term case management, and through providing them with opportunities for leadership and skill building.

Northside Connect

Northside Connect aims to build and encourage the local aspirations our north Brisbane community. Based in Nundah, we provide services such as legal advice, domestic violence support, practical relief from life stressors as well as a safe place to connect and reinforce the sense of community.

Northway Community Playgroup

Volunteer run community playgroup serving a need for families with pre kindy children to learn to socialise as they develop. We have mums with newborns coming who benefit from new friendships made. We do not charge any fees just a voluntary gold coin donation. Playgroup has been operating for 15 years and our outdoor equipment is old and tired. The group is part of the Mission Outreach of Northway Uniting Church, Beldon WA 6027. We provide a service for families restricted by financial situations and fill a gap where they are unable to attend day-care or prefer not to send them. It provides opportunities for volunteers to participate in community activities and enhance their self-worth and enjoyment of life.

Northwest Community Group Inc

We support people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. We do this through 3 x stands per week where we give out clothing, toiletries, blankets, tents, sleeping bags, air matresses etc.

We also run a program to help people who have gone from homelessness to housing, to help them get items they need to make their house a home.

If you have experienced or are at risk of family and domestic violence and/or sexual assault, contact the National Sexual Assault, Family & Domestic Violence Counselling Line on 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732). 1800 RESPECT is also contactable via text, online chat or video call and is available 24 hours.

 

Financial hardship

The National Debt Helpine provides free, independent and confidential financial counselling via phone or live chat, Monday to Friday. You can call them on 1800 007 007.

Mob Strong Debt Helpline is a free advice service about money matters for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. They can be contacted on 1800 808 488, Monday to Friday.

Mental health, depression or anxiety

If you or someone else’s life is in danger, call Triple Zero 000.

You can access 24/7 crisis support by calling Lifeline on 13 11 14. You can also contact Lifeline via text or online chat.

You can talk to a counsellor 24/7 through Beyond Blue. You can also access brief counselling with Beyond Blue via online chat.

If you’re a young person aged 12-25, you can talk to a trained clinician, you can contact Headspace 7 days a week between 9am and 1pm by calling 1800 650 890 or via online chat.

 

First Nations Australians

If you’re a First Nations Australian and you are going through a tough time, you can call 13YARN (13 92 76) to talk with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander crisis supporter.

 

Children or young people experiencing hardship

Children and young people aged 5 – 25 can access support through Kids Helpline by calling 1800 55 1800 or through online chat 24/7.

The Disability Gateway is an Australian Government service to help people with disability, their family, friends and carers find the support they need. They can be contacted on 1800 643 787, Monday to Friday.

 

Refugees and asylum seekers

People struggling with addiction
